IIMC PGPEX – Admitted!

2008 December 9
by ahembeea

I’m in a much calmer disposition now than I was yesterday evening. Reason being that its finally begun to sink in that I’ve received an admit from IIM C’s PGPEX one year program!  I got dinged in the first list, then probably a few blessed souls decided to give it up, all conspiring to make way for ahembeea!!

It wasn’t even something that I was waiting for, or expecting. Came to know yesterday evening that a second list was up, entered my details, and lo ! My very first admit :-) Damn, it certainly feels great!

Somehow I knew the story wasn’t over. Had written a draft on my interview experience and wanted to post it after the results. Now’s a good time to post that here -

21st September, 2008 – 12:30 PM – Venue – IIM C

I had my PGPEX interview at the IIMC campus today. It lasted all of 15 minutes, whereas everyone before me had an at least 30 minutes’ interview.

The panel had 3 professors, A – middle-age,homely, B – senior,serious, C – young to mid age,friendly.

A asked for my file, B was reading my essays, C began – tell me about yourself. I spoke for a minute, and then asked him if he wanted to know anything specific.
C – Just describe yourself.
B – Tell us about your job description again.
C – you mentioned values. Please tell us about your values.
B – Do you smoke ? Are you aware of the health hazards? Then don’t you have a problem working for a tobacco client.
C – Since you are IT enabling them, you are making them more profitable.
I stood my ground and said that I am working for my organization and not directly working for this client.
B – Tell us about your hobbies.
B – Tell us what is a classic.
C – Tell us about problems you faced in the unusual incident.
C – Why would you spend so much and make things uncertain for them.
A – would you go for family accomodation ?

Thats it. I asked a couple of questions at the end. Can’t predict anything from this interview. I’ll post this once the results are out.

Having resigned myself to the thought that I would now certainly have to leave India for my MBA, this comes as a welcome relief!

The game changes from here. My motivation for an MBA from my other school choices is still very strong, so would like to see how the tale unfolds. I’m definitely not going to apply to any more schools, so its a pleasure to realize that my MBA application process has finally ended :-) .

And yes. I hadn’t thought I would be visibly so contained in my excitement as I have been since yday.  Wasn’t this what I have been waiting for all along? Its a great feeling.

Plus things can only get better from here. Watch this space.

Holy schmollly!!! Never knew such stuff happens too, getting an admit through the waitlist! I know the waitlist concept is prevalent, but never seen someone actually get through. Congrats man, looks like you are all set now.

Dear all, your support and encouragement means a lot to me. You’ve stood by when the going was tough, and share my excitement when things are so much better now. Thanks for your kind words. In my frustration I had almost decided to make a post a day until I received an admit, so you now stand saved from that torture!

Mission – yes, Emory did make the cut :-) , and I got to know immediately after I had spent another 1000 bucks in mailing my transcript to them!
